Sendero Group is a US based company
which has been specializing in GPS satellite navigation solutions for
the blind and low vision since the 90's.
Its CEO and many of its
staff have visual difficulties and as such, they understand the problems
and challenges facing blind individuals in terms of their mobility and
orientation skills.
GPS, can when used appropriately, aid
individuals with a sight impairment to effectively, securely and
confidently operate in both familiar and unfamiliar surroundings
unaided.
Whilst not a replacement for the traditional white stick
or Guide dog, what Sendero GPS products can do is to enable a
dramatically improved sense of confidence and self assurance to the user
when particularly in unfamiliar surroundings. Ensuring that the user
gets to where they want to be effectively and most importantly without
the necessity of regularly asking for directions or assistance from
passers-by.
